The high school Football league

Football was the sport that I played in my entire childhood. It was an inseperable part of my life and it taught me many aspects of life. It was not merely a game but rather a teacher in itself.

This was not only my story, but it was also a story of all my classmates in high school. We had one-hour class on physical exercise and training, which all of the classmates dedicated only for playing football and nothing else. That was the kind of passion each one us had towards football.

I would never miss a day in school wherever we had P.E.T. classes and the days when it was not there never felt any motivation to go to school. This is the reason I say it was an integral part of life and not merely a sport. It brought all my classmates together, taught us how to bond within teams, strategize, set goals these are the few qualities that the sport cultivated in us.

Everybody in the class knew about football leagues i.e. English Premier League and we mimicked this in our school. When the schools reopened after the summer vacation during the onset of monsoons, every year teams were formed and matches were scheduled, the league was kicked off and at the end, winners were declared and rewarded.

I belonged to the team comprising of Levin, Osborne, Pritham and Prajwal. I have forgotten the team name but nonetheless, I still remember all my teammates and the day when we won the league!

The formation — position of the players.

At that time, the Bralizian national football teams were making news all around the world. Their team had well-known players like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Adriano, Robinho etc. They definitely have influenced many people around the globe.

We were also not exceptions to it as the football fanatics. We had renamed ourselves into Levunto, Obio, Amto, Punto etc. This was how I got associated with the name Punto. Till date, this name always reminds me of the school days football memories.

I feel the best time to play football is when there is a downpour. Monsoons enhance your football playing experience altogether!

You got to play football in the monsoons, it is a sheer joy!

I do believe every individual is unique maybe if you love monsoons and football then probably you should try playing when it is showering.

The penalty shootout was a delight!

The penalty shoot-out always delighted me. It was a way out when we don't get a winner even after the stipulated time for the play is done. The goalkeeper takes the centre stage and decides the game.

It was after a long break from football after I left my schools, I got a chance to play football for a corporate event. I was definitely thrilled and this triggered all the thoughts from schooldays. It was a pleasure playing football after so many years with the team. There was one memorable photograph with the perfect football players style pose with the high in team spirit injured goalie Vamsi and an athletic defender Ramesh.

The team Cheetahs of 2016. Right side in blue-Vamsi, Left side in blue & white-Ramesh, Centre in blue-Punto.

Football indeed is a wonderful game, not sure about its origins. Sadly, this game does not get much support in our country. Hope football will rise to popularity among the Indians in the days to come and would wish to see that day when the Indian national team will be representing our country in the FIFA world cup.
